2025 Mazda CX 5: Refined Drive, Everyday Versatility
A compact SUV designed with purpose and precision

When it comes to striking a perfect balance between driving enjoyment, premium design, and everyday practicality, the 2025 Mazda CX‑5 continues to set the standard. It’s the kind of vehicle that feels just right from the moment you step inside—responsive, comfortable, and thoughtfully engineered for real life. Whether your day includes commuting, exploring back roads, or simply running errands, the CX‑5 feels like a natural extension of the driver.

Mazda continues with its proven engine offerings. The standard Skyactiv‑G 2.5-litre four-cylinder delivers 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Opting for the turbocharged variant raises output to 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque when using premium fuel, or 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft with regular. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission featuring manual and sport modes, delivering confident acceleration and smooth transitions without overcomplication.

All 2025 CX‑5 models are equipped with i‑Activ all-wheel drive as standard, along with G‑Vectoring Control Plus—Mazda’s cornering stability system that subtly shifts torque and braking force to enhance handling precision during curves or quick manoeuvres. Together, these systems give the CX‑5 confident road manners, particularly in wet or variable conditions, without compromising fuel efficiency.

Fuel consumption has been optimized for real-world conditions. The naturally aspirated model achieves 8.7 L/100 km combined, with 10.2 L/100 km in the city and 7.7 L/100 km on the highway. The turbocharged model is rated at 10.1 L/100 km combined, 11.0 L/100 km in the city, and 8.7 L/100 km on the highway. These numbers reflect current Canadian fuel economy testing standards and give drivers the flexibility to choose between performance and efficiency.

Practicality remains a strong suit. The CX‑5 offers 871 litres of cargo capacity behind the second row, and 1,680 litres when the seats are folded flat. The wide liftgate opening and low floor make it easy to load larger items, while 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats provide flexible storage options for both gear and passengers. Select trims include a power liftgate with programmable height for added convenience.

Mazda’s Kodo design language continues to evolve with the CX‑5’s athletic yet elegant form. Clean body lines, a bold front grille, slim LED lighting, and available dark-finish 19-inch alloy wheels give the CX‑5 a presence that feels premium without being overstated. Top trims such as the Signature edition add gloss black accents, chrome detailing, and unique finishes to further elevate the design.

Inside the cabin, Mazda’s dedication to materials and layout is immediately apparent. Soft-touch surfaces, available Nappa leather upholstery, and real wood or suede trim elevate the feel across the trim range. The front seats are well-bolstered for longer trips, and the driver’s cockpit is designed around ergonomic clarity, giving quick access to climate and drive settings without distraction. Rear passengers benefit from available heated seats, USB ports, and independent air vents.

Infotainment is centred around a 10.25-inch widescreen display controlled by Mazda’s rotary command dial. All trims support Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, with wireless functionality available on select models. Higher trims also feature a Bose® 10-speaker premium audio system, built-in navigation, and a full-colour head-up display that projects critical information like speed and directions onto the windshield.

Every 2025 CX‑5 comes standard with Mazda’s i‑Activsense safety suite. This includes Smart City Brake Support (Front), Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go. Upper trims offer further enhancements such as Smart Brake Support (Rear), Driver Attention Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition, and a 360° View Monitor—providing greater peace of mind in complex traffic or tight spaces.

Mazda has refined the CX‑5 into a crossover that prioritizes the driver while never forgetting the needs of passengers. It’s a vehicle that rewards every kilometre, not just with responsive handling, but with long-term value, premium refinement, and a feeling of connection you don’t often find in this segment. Whether you’re headed to work, escaping for the weekend, or navigating winter roads with confidence, the 2025 CX‑5 is ready.
